Super-powered
:
Swap your morning vitamins
for The Fratellis |
 |
Right, this is not going to change your life
forever. No need for an Oxbridge education to apprehend The Fratellis’
album, but… for there’s always a but…
This is easy-made rock music, I’ll
give you that, but it’s still rock music ! Good, super-powered
rock music, with a hint of punk and a pinch of pop, that will conveniently
replace your breakfast orange juice – without the mid-morning
heart-burn.
In fact, the Fratellis did not put in that much effort in Costello
Music. But, for there’s always a but, they certainly did
not lack energy. That’s what makes the album so appealling :
pure sound inspired by the likes of T-Rex and Knack ! In other words,
The Fratellis will take you back to the 70’s. They must have
worn out their mum and dad’s vinyls before taking up the good
old guitar-bass-drums combo : fuelled with pop rythms and inspired
by the Beatles, they fleed suburban Glasgow and came on air.
The fibbing Scotts - The Fratellis aren’t even related ! –
have done well nonetheless, despite a few « buts ».
Although not a masterpiece, their first album is nice to listen to
: OK, you won’t hear anything new, but so what ?.
Anyway, let’s not dig any deeper. My conclusion is : it’s
not brilliant, but it’s easy to listen to, it’s got a
good beat to it, and it’d be a shame to do without it.
